01

Pick Up from Kigali and Travel to Akagera National Park

We start your adventure with a pickup from Kigali International Airport or your city hotel. If you arrive early, enjoy a quick Kigali city tour—visit markets, memorials, and vibrant streets to get a feel for Rwanda’s culture. Then, drive east to Akagera National Park, a beautiful spot with lakes and rolling hills. Check into your lodge, relax, and savor dinner.

Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise

Rise early for a thrilling morning game drive through Akagera’s grasslands. Spot the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, rhinos), plus zebras, giraffes, impalas, kobs, topis, and birds. Return for lunch, then head out for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Watch hippos, crocs, and waterbirds up close—it’s relaxing and full of surprises.

Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali

After breakfast, drive back through Kigali toward the misty Virunga volcanoes. Stop for lunch and any shopping needs. Arrive at Volcanoes National Park by afternoon, home to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas.

Gorilla Trekking and Optional Cultural Evening

The highlight! After breakfast, meet rangers for your gorilla trekking permit briefing. Hike into the forest (1-4 hours, depending on gorilla location) to spend one magical hour with a habituated family—watch them play and eat. Return for lunch, then choose the optional Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village visit: see Intore dances, learn about local traditions, and try sorghum beer. Dinner follows.

Dian Fossey Hike and Return to Kigali

Start with a guided hike to Dian Fossey’s grave and Karisoke Research Center—learn about gorilla conservation amid breathtaking views. It’s an easy-to-moderate trail with history and scenery. Head back to Kigali by afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or airport.
