5-Day Uganda Gorilla & Game Safari Adventure
Trek through lush rainforests to meet mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, then explore vast savannahs.
Our 4 Day Mgahinga Gorilla and Golden Monkey Experience Safari takes you deep into Mgahinga National Park in southwestern Uganda — one of Africa’s most intimate and least-visited wildlife sanctuaries. Small, serene, and still wonderfully untouched by mass tourism, Mgahinga is the only park in Uganda where mountain gorillas and Golden monkeys share the same ancient volcanic landscape, earning it the poetic title: “Where Gold Meets Silver.”
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You will embark on a scenic drive southwestward through Uganda’s rolling hills, tea plantations, and vibrant rural communities — a journey of approximately 8 to 9 hours. As you approach the Kisoro district, the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes rise majestically on the horizon, setting the stage for what lies ahead. Upon arrival at your lodge near the park boundary, you will check in, enjoy a warm welcome dinner, and receive a briefing about the days ahead. Rest well — tomorrow demands an early start.

After an early breakfast, you will set off with your ranger guide into the dense montane forest in search of one of Mgahinga’s habituated mountain gorilla families. The trek can range from one to several hours depending on where the gorillas have nested overnight. Once found, you are granted a magical one-hour encounter — watching these gentle giants feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. With fewer tourists than Bwindi, the experience here feels remarkably personal and unhurried. Return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon.

This day shifts the spotlight to Mgahinga’s golden treasure — the endangered Golden monkey, found almost exclusively in the Virunga region. Your guide will lead you through bamboo forest zones where these brilliantly coloured, energetic primates leap and chatter overhead. You may also opt for the Golden Monkey habituation experience, spending extended time with a semi-habituated group alongside researchers. It is a rare, enriching encounter that perfectly complements yesterday’s gorilla magic.
